Legend has it that San Carlo, in 1574, during a pastoral visit to this small town, passing with his horse, wanted to drink and cool off, at that precise moment, his horse with a blow of his hoof scraping a lump of ground that it came out 'a trickle of cold water, then with the work of man, built' on a fountain and there seems to be still.

In recent years, the church was long neglected, avoiding to perform the periodic maintenance, as existed in this small village church of San Rocco, which for the few inhabitants of Brunello was more than enough, a second church in the sense that virtually no use to anyone.

ALL of San Vittore in Arsago Seprio [Va]

Il Complesso di San Vittore in Arsago Seprio [Varese]

the complex taken from the north-west

Arsago Seprio quote is a small town in Ticino Park near Somma Lombardo. The monumental complex of Romanesque, is the Basilica, now a national monument building with bell tower and the Baptistery of San Giovanni, all of considerable architectural beauty and green space within an extended and by a thick row of cypress trees that are from the screen to the Baptistery, giving the place a sense of great peace and tranquility.

The Baptistery, dedicated to St. John the Baptist, stands next to the Basilica, octagonal cupola on top of which is found at a time round, it is assumed to have been built in the eleventh century. Inside there is the ancient bath for baptism, which is also octagonal and is accessed down some stairs.

The Basilica, one of the most important Romanesque churches in the province of Varese, is structured on three naves and is presumed has been built between the 'eighth and ninth centuries, the interior of the Basilica, very simple, has suffered in recent years some work restoration, bringing to light the decorations that are thought to have been added in more recent times.

The bell tower is leaning to the left of the Basilica; this is a massive and impressive tower, built in the eleventh century, whose bells, only since 1872, were placed in the open, almost to the top of the tower, which is slightly leaning.

Also in Arsago Seprio of considerable interest in the Civic Archaeological Museum, which houses finds from the Roman necropolis and the Lombards found near Arsago Seprio. The museum itself, opened in 1983, renovated and expanded years ago and reopened to the public since 1998 and to date I have not had the opportunity to visit it, and I think I will as soon as possible seems to be the most important museum Lombard is currently present in Italy.

church of San Rocco in Arsago Seprio [V]

The Church of San Rocco in Arsago Seprio

[ V a r e s e ]

inspired by a beautiful article by Gabriel Ceresa, published in the newspaper "La Prealpina" in Varese, 13 September 2007 and I was given, enclosed in a frame per day, by the spouses of Bartholomew Arsago Seprio current owners of San Rocco, on the occasion of my short visit in May 2008.
was a long time I wanted to visit San Rocco and I was wondering how a place of worship could be enclosed by a railing.

One morning, as on many other occasions, I found myself to go there in front of a bicycle.
I took my courage in both hands and rang the bell, which I had never dared to do before.
She said all kind a lady who informed me that the church was no longer a place of worship had been desecrated during the Second World War [1939 - 1945] . He added that it would be more than happy to let me visit, even allowing me to carry out the shooting. The lady introduced me to her husband and both of them, very polite, showed me their home and garden and brought in every corner of their property with exquisite warmth and courtesy.

The article, to which I referred earlier, virtually summed up the history of this architectural gem dating from the XVI century .

Here is the brief summary.

" It was about the year 1950. The continuing shift to low-flying aircraft (Malpensa is located in the immediate vicinity) and the deafening noise they made, over time, move other tiles, it caused numerous leaks that caused the bell in the sacristy and in the apse, substantial and irreparable damage .
Thus, in 1958, the Provost of Arsago made the request to demolish the entire building had become dilapidated, and also desecrated since the days of the war following the requisitioned for war purposes, of 'existing only bell.

It is at this point that replaces the providential intervention of the architect Alessandro Minali: he decided to buy the entire structure to transform it in his dwelling-house.

The Superintendent then granted permission to transform the building, provided that you preserve the tower in its original structure.
Unfortunately Minali Alexander died two years later, but his nephew, Ennio Bartholomew, Erminia and his wife were able to keep the property in an impeccable way, especially make several improvements that they emphasized the Previous sacredness of 'whole building.

In fact in 2007 were carried out substantial renovations, restoring the structure to its former glory.

Today, passing from before, one can not help but stop to admire the beauty of the place, both for its linearity for its beautiful prospects. "

As you can see, the photographs were taken by me only to the outside of the complex, deliberately avoiding to resume the inside of the house, in order to comply the privacy of the owners.

After the visit, thanked Messrs Bartholomew heart for allowing me to admire and photograph the jewelry and their above all, for their really friendly and uncommon hospitality.

LE Glacier CAZZAGO Brabbia [VA]

the ice Cazzago Brabbia [V]

are thought to have been built towards the end of 1700, the same as were used for the conservation of the fish caught in Lake Varese, then among the most fish-filled lakes in the area.

These iceboxes were filled with winter lake ice, recovered in large slabs from the fishermen who, armed with axes, they did it in pieces, then wrap in heavy blankets, with special wagons transported and deposited within the glacier in the most convenient period, ie January to February.

The fish was so 'placed in ice and in the end everything was covered with rice husks, case obtained as a waste product from the threshing, which served as insulation, ensuring keeping ice in solid form for about a year, ensuring that 'the conservation of the fish itself.

The fishery for coastal popolalazioni was the main activity for their survival, that in this small area is contained almost the entire history of our beautiful lake of Varese, and its fishermen.

pity that the area is not very well marked, some signs in more would not hurt.

A few steps from Ghiacchiaie, slightly downhill, a nice marina with a large area used for picnics, practically a small oasis, which is worth visiting, you will not be disappointed!

As I reached the area to photograph, I noticed a car in which they are particularly fond of, a Beetle W mod. convertible, decorated for a wedding. A short distance away was a photographer doing a photo shoot with the couple, and to respect their privacy, I have deliberately avoided to recover, but I could not give up this beautiful photograph exemplary
