It is located in a hilly area south of Varese, completely surrounded by greenery.
Announced Dedicated to Santa Maria, it's almost impossible not to see her passing on the street near Varese, the same stands alone in the true sense of the word on the powerful figure of the Monte Rosa, a little lonely because it is found detached from the historical hamlet of Brunello.

The church with its adjoining convent, appear to have belonged, after the foundation, the order of the humiliated, a religious congregation dedicated to diverse and thriving all over textile and finance, with particular emphasis on making the rich and corrupt. After some unspeakable events, Pope Pius V then, after several attempts to reform the order, it deleted permanently.
Legend has it that San Carlo, in 1574, during a pastoral visit to this small town, passing with his horse, wanted to drink and cool off, at that precise moment, his horse with a blow of his hoof scraping a lump of ground that it came out 'a trickle of cold water, then with the work of man, built' on a fountain and there seems to be still.
In recent years, the church was long neglected, avoiding to perform the periodic maintenance, as existed in this small village church of San Rocco, which for the few inhabitants of Brunello was more than enough, a second church in the sense that virtually no use to anyone.
Inside were discovered and preserved frescoes of the fifteenth century, the most important among others is also the largest, a Judgement and seems to be the only one currently existing in Lombardia.
The author is unknown, but the locals used to call "the master of Brunello.
A particular kind of curious is that these frescoes were only discovered about 1935 by the then parish priest, beneath a thick layer lime plastering, is expected to disinfect the walls have used this treatment in order to fight and finally defeat the plague that hit 'the area in 1576.
